AMERICAN ECOLOGY NAMES JOHN COOPER CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER
BOISE, Idaho – Stephen Romano, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Ecology Corporation [NASDAQ: ECOL], today announced the promotion of John M. Cooper to Chief Information Officer. Cooper joined American Ecology in July 2002 as Director of Information Technology.
"John’s promotion reflects the successful implementation of American Ecology’s new production system at all three hazardous waste facilities, and integration of the new system with our accounting systems," Romano stated.
The Company implemented the American Ecology Standard Operating Platform (“AESOP”) production system at its Nevada and Texas hazardous waste management facilities in May, expanding the system to its Idaho facility in July. Related integration of the new production system with the Company’s accounting systems took place concurrently.
Under Cooper’s direction, American Ecology has also significantly reduced information technology support, maintenance and networking costs. In 2002, the Company successfully transitioned to a high-availability Linux-based server infrastructure, allowing it to retire outdated systems while lowering costs and increasing performance. “These timely information system and technology upgrades have significantly improved business efficiency and provide a solid platform for growth,” Romano concluded.
American Ecology Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides radioactive, PCB, hazardous and non-hazardous waste services to commercial and government customers throughout the United States, such as nuclear power plants, steel mills, medical and academic institutions and petro-chemical facilities.
