AMERICAN ECOLOGY ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS AND NEW ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY DIRECTOR

BOISE, Idaho – Stephen Romano, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Ecology Corporation [NASDAQ: ECOL], today announced that the Company’s Board of Directors has promoted National Sales Director Steve Welling to Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and also named Chief Information Officer John Cooper a Vice President. Both are now officers of the company. Romano also announced the appointment of Richard O’Hara as Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Director.

Richard O’Hara joins American Ecology as Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Director reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. O’Hara is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance and safety programs at American Ecology’s four operating disposal facilities and manages the company’s closed hazardous waste facilities. O’Hara has over 20 years experience in environmental compliance, hazardous waste management and remediation. He previously held positions responsible for environmental compliance and remedial projects with Waste Management Inc., and served as Director of the State of Wisconsin’s hazardous waste program. “Richard O’Hara brings a wealth of practical regulatory experience to the American Ecology team, further strengthening our commitment to safety and environmental compliance,” Romano concluded.

AMERICAN ECOLOGY PROMOTES CHAD HYSLOP TO MARKETING & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR

BOISE, Idaho – Stephen Romano, President and Chief Executive Officer of American Ecology Corporation [NASDAQ: ECOL], today announced the promotion of Chad Hyslop to Marketing & External Affairs Director. Hyslop joined American Ecology in 2001 as Director of Public Affairs.

“Chad Hyslop’s expanded marketing role in the company’s corporate office is a key component of American Ecology’s aggressive 2004 growth strategy,” Romano stated.

In addition to his existing public and government affairs and investor relations duties, Hyslop works with the company’s senior management team on marketing strategy development, competitor and market research, pricing analyses and new market development. “Chad’s understanding of governmental regulations and processes as they relate to the hazardous and radioactive waste services industry is an excellent fit for this new position,” Romano concluded.

An Idaho native, Hyslop previously served as District Director and Press Secretary for Idaho Congressman Helen Chenoweth-Hage, and Assistant Editor of The Owyhee Avalanche newspaper in Homedale, Idaho.
